Bored Nation

If you watched the news on television today, or decided to check a news website or even a gossip website, everyone was talking about the kid in the balloon. If you didn't see any of that, I will summarize by telling you that a kid was supposedly inside a huge balloon designed by a former weather man who now likes doing weather experiments. After the balloon landed an hour later, nobody was inside, and there was a county wide search for the missing boy, who had been hiding in his attic all along. 

This whole thing started sometime in the morning and it took several hours until the boy was found. Now after all day you can still read about this and watch how they keep telling you about it and showing videos on TV. 

What is wrong with this country that people forgot what news networks are supposed to broadcast? Is there nothing going on in the entire world, that a network like CNN can spend all day talking about this balloon thing? Is that the only topic? The kid was not in the balloon, it was a stupid meaningless event, and they talk about it like if they were covering the elections, with analysts using the fancy interactive backboard, and interviews to the family and neighbors and sheriff and rescue workers and volunteers. Give me a fucking break!

This country is bored and nobody gives a shit about real news. Nobody wants to really know what is happening around the world. People care about this meaningless stuff, or what celebrities are doing, or even what people who are not celebrities do. If I see Jon Gosselin and his stupid face in the cover of more magazines or shows I'm going to have to stop reading newspapers, going to the supermarket and watching the news. How come that retarded scumbag be in the spotlight for months? He doesn't do anything. He is not even attractive or does funny things like Paris Hilton would do. 

If it wasn't enough that I had to hear about the balloon boy all day long, now there are people making viral videos and jokes about it. Celebrities are twittering about it and talking about the 'balloon boy movie'. What the hell? It's not that interesting or significant to keep talking about this. People have no topics of discussion and anything that happens becomes Breaking News and the nation is paralyzed talking about it. Sad. I'm not going to continue talking about it because I invested a lot more time on the subject that what it deserves.
