If Windows 7 was the idea of all these idiots, why the hell would I buy it? They should have gotten Steve Jobs on the commercial and say that Windows 7 is his idea. That might work.

Microsoft continues to be out of touch with the customers. They have annoying, ineffective and plain stupid marketing campaigns to compliment their lackluster lineup of products.

And something else. If I remember correctly we had Windows 3.0, 3.1, 3.11 etc. Then Windows 95 came out. Then Windows 98 came out. Then? Windows XP (if we don't count Windows 2000 as it as Enterprise Edition). Then the magnificient Windows Vista. So shouldn't this be WINDOWS EIGHT instead of Windows 7? Do these people even know how to count?

PLEASE. Bring Bill Gates back. Spend money on research & development and not in stupid marketing. THINK. BE SMART. I don't want to hate Microsoft but you people are making it impossible not to. Thanks.

It may be a litle hard to navigate, but the visuals are incredible and it definitely looks like something out of his crazy and innovative mind. I may not plan to see "A Christmas Carol", but I still enjoy at most of his movies. If you haven't seen "Yes Man", you should. He never gets the credit on how good an actor he is, but as ridiculously hilarious he can be sometimes, he's also done an amazing job in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "The Truman Show".

As the current CEO Daniel Battsek announced that he will step down in 2010, Disney announced that the New York office will shut down and 'some' of the remaining employees will be relocated to Burbank, CA. Sad news. Miramax became famous for being the indie label that launched Quentin Tarantino and Steven Soderbergh into superstardom. That all ended when the Weinstein Brothers left to create their own company, but the company still had some solid hits in the past few years like No Country for Old Men, which not only was successful financially but also won several Oscars including Best Picture.

This is for sure a big blow for the indie producers out there. I'm glad that Fox Searchlight and a few others continue to believe, but of course Fox Atomic, Paramount Vantage and a few others are also gone. If we learned something these past weeks is that indie films have power. Paranormal Activity is now the most profitable film of all time, having cost only $13,000 and in route to generate over $100 million in Box Office.

As I said, sad news for the indie film industry, but hopefully someone else will pick up where Miramax left off. I'm sure it will not be the Weinstein Bros. again, but who knows.

I've said it many times. This weekend was an exception because of my birthday and Halloween, which is always fun. But what to do? In other places like Miami where I spent many years of my life, there is not much else going on, but Los Angeles is not the case. There is plenty to do.

Here are some ideas for this week. Hope you like them.

- The Floor Show this Tuesday night at the King King Hollywood. I posted something about this amazing show before, produced by Carolina Cerisola and Sasha Escandon. You know what? This Tuesday is the LAST SHOW so I suggest you be there. More info clicking here.

- The AFI Fest started this weekend and continues all week. Click here for more info.

- Want Music? R. Kelly at the Nokia Theatre this Thursday. The Dan Band at Club Nokia on Friday. Jay-Z at Pauley Pavillion (UCLA) on Sunday.

- If you want something awesome and a little bit different on Sunday night, head over to Bordello for Harlow Gold. I wrote something about that before and its a really cool place and the show is definitely worth it.

- Sports Fan? November 8 has the amazing showdown of Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant at Staples Center. One of the best players to come to LA before Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat come to town.

- Comedy? Tom Arnold does a funny show and he will be at the Laugh Factory o Wednesday.

- And the Holiday Season Movies begin this weekend with Jim Carrey's "A Christmas Carol" opening on Friday, as well as Richard Kelly's "The Box" with Cameron Diaz, and the one I really want to see which is "The Man Who Stare at Goats" with George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey. Looks great.

So those are some of the great entertainment options of the LA nightlife. I will try to post similar things often as I find out of other cool events going on. If you have any recommendations please email me anytime.

Friday Night Lights started season four this past week (on DIRECTV) and it proved once again it's one of the best written shows. But the general consensus these days is that most television shows have come back stronger than ever this new season.

It's impressive but not surprising. The economic problems have cancelled many programs and cut the number of new bets in more than half, so naturally everyone that is still on the air knows the stakes are high. The good news for most of them is that ratings have been sky-high, and although advertising revenue still trails last year, the most important thing is that television is showing how strong of a medium it is.

Yes, online viewership is also up. Movie box office is also up. Everything is up. But the economy is down. Simple math if you consider that watching television and going to the movies remain to be some of the cheapest things people can do in a time of crisis, but truth is that beyond the economic factors, quality has become important and overall it seems like the shows that have been successful are the ones that have proven to have improved creatively.

This is not true entirely if you count that sport ratings are also up. NBA kick-off week had a huge ratings boost over last season and pretty much every season since Michael Jordan was still in uniform. Baseball is up, and NBC is thanking god for having Sunday Night Football save their ass. TV viewership is up in every category.

So if you are also interested in watching good TV, get on with Friday Night Lights. If you don't have DIRECTV, the fourth season will air on NBC in early 2010. In the meantime, you can probably get all the previous seasons on DVD for little money and catch up. Other shows that you should pay attention to are Dexter, Californication, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Big Bang Theory and 30 Rock. Enjoy!

You probably noticed that earlier today Canal Internet went offline. Before somebody else starts saying that we are out of business, I wanted to clarify that this is very temporary. We are relaunching in a few weeks with a different look, new content, and pretty much a new concept.

Because we had to basically reformat and re-encode all the video on the site, it was very hard for us to keep the old site running while we updated to the new version. That is the reason of the temporary downtime and I strongly believe that the new site is worth the wait.

I will keep you posted on the new developments, including new content deals and other info on this blog for the time being. Thanks for all your support and for being faithful users of Canal Internet.

Not really. The "balloon boy" bullshit was a hoax. Staged. Another smartass family in this country that decided to get famous for no particular reason and try to bring in some extra cash. It worked, and no matter what happens with them they will make money out of this. There may be a movie made, books, tons of magazine covers, rumors, affairs with other 'famous nobodies', merchandising, etc.

But where are the real consequences? The sheriff of Larimer County said that there will be charges, but what kind of charges? I don't think anybody will end up in jail. They should, both parents, but it will not happen because who will protect the innocent children? And they can get huge fines, but like I said before money should not be a problem for these people after this.

The problem in this country is that at the end of the day there is no good punishment for these kind of actions, and that is why people keep looking for this sort of stupid fame-whoring tactics. What kind of message does an event like this send to everyone in this country, and around the world? Media from all over the planet were covering this in real time, and lots of people were actually sad thinking that the little bastard fell off the balloon. Now you tell them it was all staged? That it was for the sole purpose of being on television and making some dough? I'm sorry but this is why the world hates America. What the fuck.

At the end of the day, people forget. In the meantime I want to see how this develops. I'm sure there is a lot of people in Larimer County that are pissed off, as not only they volunteered for the search and were worried sick for an entire day, but this also cost the county lots of cash in salaries, equipment, helicopters, etc. Oh, and not to mention they all look like idiots now.

My only hope is that someone smarter than me can figure out what the correct punishment is for these people and make sure it happens. Hey, this is Obama Nation and supposedly things were going to change for the better. This is something that should change if we really want to teach Americans better values and we want the rest of the world to respect us for that.

iPhone Killer or Hype?

Everyone has been trying, but nobody can really beat the iPhone in what the iPhone does. I'm not talking about Blackberry because the purpose is different, but LG, Samsung, Palm, HTC and the other ones who have been trying to develop a iPhone-like phone.

The Droid is the new phone from Verizon Wireless that comes out in November. Not sure who is manufacturing, although the Droid official website says that Droid is a trademark of LucasFilm Ltd. Is this a Star Wars phone or what the hell is going on?

But my point here is that the first Droid commercials started airing on television and they are very clever. They look like an iPhone or Apple commercial at first, but you can easily see that the theme here is not iPhone but iDon't. "iDon't have a real keyboard" and "iDon't allow open development" and a few other things, followed by the punchline "Everything iDon't... Droid Does".

Can this be a legitimate iPhone contender? There are no pictures or information about the Droid yet, but I think their marketing campaign is off to a good start. Check out the commercial below and let me know what you think. If you find any info about the Droid please share as well.

Even Worse.

I have a problem when comes to the television shows I watch, and what happens is that once I start watching a show and make the 'commitment' to record, download or stream episodes, I keep watching until the end. No matter how bad it gets, I'm there.

Lot's of shows are accused of 'jumping the shark', but in some cases I'm ok with it. 24 jumped the shark and then got better again. Entourage sucks for lots of people now, but I find it entertaining and funny, and every episode only takes 20 minutes of my life. Still, the writing on those shows may not be as great as it once was, but they are still fun and the story somehow continues to evolve in a potentially realistic way (Jack Bauer should be like 60 now and Tony Almeida died 17 times, but whatever).

My point is that there are cases when the non-sense is too much. Cases where I don't get how a show stays on the air, considering that there are so many good shows that get cancelled or good shows that don't even make it to the air in the first place. I understand this is a business, and ratings and advertisers are more powerful than anything else, but I believe that show-runners should have the balls and decency to pull the plug when the time comes.

Yes, I am talking to you, Ryan Murphy, creator of Nip/Tuck. This was once one of the most edgy, creative and fun shows on television. The characters were great, the dialogues were clever, and although it was always a little bit 'out there', it was fun and exciting to keep watching. We could easily say that the show jumped the shark years ago, at the end of season 3, with the whole "Carver" reveal. Well, season 6 just began and if you are one of the people who quit watching in season 3 god bless you.

Not only there is no storyline and nothing that remotely makes sense in the script, but these characters became clowns. The writing is awful, so bad that now they even had a narrator filling in the gaps of the impossibly retarded storyline. The dialogues are as empty as the lives of these people who we have know followed for the past six or seven years. And as bad as all the characters are, there is one in particular who I just want to kill with my own hands. MATT. What the fuck? This kid has had sex with a transexual, then he decided he wanted to circumcise himself and almost cut his penis off, then became homosexual, then had a nazi girlfriend, then became a Scientologist and married a porn-star, then became a junkie, then he was set on fire and dumped by a girl who looked like Gollum, then decided to become an actor, and now he wants to be a mime, but he is so retarded he fails at that and ends up becoming a fucking grocery store robber. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK. KILL HIM ALREADY. This summarizes how little sense this show makes in every way.

Once again, I understand that sometimes decisions make sense because of financial reasons and that wins over how creative they may be. We are seeing it happen with the film industry and all the remakes, and I saw it with another show I used to enjoy which is Smallville. The thing about Smallville is that as little sense as it makes now, it's still a teenager show about Superman and you can forgive certain things.

I think in the Nip/Tuck case, it's FX's responsibility to do quality control on the crap they show. It's Ryan Murphy's responsibility to decide if he wanted to end the show with the spark of brilliance it once have, or as one of the biggest jokes on television. I think he made up his mind.

I don't watch many of the new shows because I already have enough with the old ones I already watch. I should reevaluate my rule of watching things until they end, because honestly sometimes it becomes embarrassing to watch some of this crap.

I wish the networks would pay more attention to quality control. As much as NBC has fallen behind their competitors over the past few years, I like that they continue to focus on what they believe in. 30 Rock? Ratings continue to slip even though the show continues to win every award possible. Same goes to Friday Night Lights, which is one of the best shows on television and for some reason people don't watch. I understand and respect CBS and their excellent business of making thirty versions of CSI and NCIS, but come on.

Very mysterious things happen in the behind the scenes of the television business. I'm glad that content continues to dominate the market and as much as the networks continue to have certain domain over the audience, as long as a good show finds a home somewhere and continues to be available, there is hope for the television producers, writers, show-runners who really put the focus on their story and characters beyond everything else.
