Your Move, Dwyane

As we all expected, Pat Riley and the Miami Heat made an extension offer to Dwyane Wade this morning right after 12:01am. It was reported that Wade got a text message to his cell phone from Riley. What will happen now we don't know, but it is likely that Dwyane will take some time to analyze what is best for him.

Wade can either sign the extension which will keep him with the Heat until 2014, or he can opt out after this season and look for a better and longer deal. Either way would work as long as he stays, but getting him to sign now would be amazing because it would allow Pat Riley to focus all his efforts into surrounding Wade with a winning team rather than spend so much energy in just convincing him to stay.

Truth is that Wade said many times that he is willing to stay and that he loves playing in Miami, but he has also said that he wants to play with a winner. It's not just about money. In fact, because of the way contracts are structured in the NBA and what is called "bird rights", the Miami Heat will be able to offer Wade more money than any other team. Still, if Wade feels that he will have a better chance to win elsewhere, he will take less money.

So now it's time for us to wait and see. The offer is on the table. Wade is in Miami after a hectic weekend with the Summer Groove, and he will probably sit down face to face with Pat Riley this week to discuss the different opportunities. If Riley has enough reasons to convince Wade, we will get good news soon enough. It's unlikely that this will happen unless the Heat start making some off-season moves, like signing Allen Iverson or making any other significant transaction.
