Gunnin' For That #1 Spot
Friday, July 3, 2009 If you consider yourself a basketball fan you have to see this film. If you are a Heat fan, there is even a bigger reason: Michael Beasley.
"Be Easy" is one of the eight players featured in this film. Filmed during the 2006 annual "Elite 24" all-star game, the documentary produced and directed by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys follows these players as they prepare to showcase their skills at the most legendary playground in the world. Rucker Park in Harlem.
It's pretty cool to see Beasley and other players like Jerryd Bayless, Kevin Love and Brandon Jennings showcase their skills. This is before either one of them got to college. The pressure and the determination and everything these guys went through to follow their dream of getting to the NBA.
Keep an eye for some of the other 'unknown' players out there, some of them were 15 when shooting this movie but now they are jumping into college and will soon be hot NBA prospects in the next couple of years.
Anyways, if you want to watch a great basketball game and see how good our own Michael Beasley can be, definitely watch this film. I'd definitely recommend getting the DVD, as it comes also in a pretty cool package like all Oscilloscope titles. If not, the film is available (I guess for a limited time) to watch on Hulu for free.
